The Eh-ffice Season 7 Premiere

Erin, seriously?  This guy?
Considering that this will be Steve Carell's last season in The Office, I was hoping that Thursday's season premiere would come out with a bang.  But meh, nothing much has changed.  The music video at the beginning of the show did not excite me at all and I just found it a wee bit funny (probably because I've already seen much of it posted on youtube and on the NBC site) and kinda desperate for laughs.  The only "whoa" moment for me was when Gabe (yep, GABE!!) gave Erin an awkward peck on the cheek whilst in front of a poor, heartbroken Andy.  Erin confessed that she and Gabe had been going steady and the reason she agreed to go out with him was because Gabe was her boss.  Somebody, alert Toby!!!  Of course, Andy flat out denied being jealous.  Nope, the Nard Dog took anger management classes, remember?  He then proceeded to use visualization techniques to control his emotions -- imagining a beautiful beach, calm ocean... and a whale having Gabe for desserts.  Haha! Andy, you funny!  I have to admit that this eccentric love triangle between Erin, Andy, and Gabe is one of things I'll be most excited about this season, the other one being the inevitable reunion between Michael and true-wuv Holly Flax.  When, oh when, is this going to happen, NBC?  Okay, I'm going to be patient...

Dwight, true to character of being the new owner of Dunder Mifflin's building, behaved like a total dic*-tator throughout the episode -- controlling the office temperature, arrogantly prancing around, carrying his humongous set of keys, and yelling to anyone who did not abide by his rules.  And as for Pam and Jim... Ah, we get it!  You guys are adorable and cute and your domestic bliss is the envy of every housewife living from Wisteria Lane to  New Jersey, but dude, those pranks are getting old and not cute at all.  Seriously, the writers need to do something exciting for this couple.

Meanwhile, the ultra-funny and lovely Kelly Kapoor, spent the summer taking a minority management training program at Yale and sort of, tried to rub it on anyone who cares -- albeit fruitlessly.  LOL!

Michael hired a new assistant named Luke who, inspite of his incompetence and utter disrespect to everyone, Michael stubbornly refused to fire -- much to the chagrin of his employees.  As it turned out, Luke was actually Michael's nephew, hence the show's title: Nepotism.  Michael tried, really tried, to tolerate Luke as much as possible but when the punk annoyed  Michael to death with his verbal imitation games (honestly, is this jackass like, five years old?) the world's greatest boss just lost it and spanked him like his mother!  As a consequence, corporate agreed to address Michael's use of corporal punishment by having him take sessions of counselling from his mortal "enemy": HR rep, Toby Flenderson.  Oh, the look of horror on Michael's face!!

All in all, nothing much to be crazy about aside from the aforementioned love triangle.  I'm really hoping that The Office' excite-o-meter perks up soon.  Otherwise, I might just lose interest to the show and to the characters.  Ah shucks, who am I kidding?  I love The Office very much that I'm willing to wait patiently for the show to regain the smart, fast, and confident comedy that it used to have.   Peace out, girl scout! :)

Every Geek Has His Day

My favorite nerd, Jim Parsons (a.k.a. Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory) grabbed the Emmy's Best Comedy Actor award over veteran crowd-favorites, Alec Baldwin and Steve Carell!!!  Yeeha!! A shout out to Team Ausiello:  We Won, Baby!!! :-)

Sheldon Gets Bazinga'd!
I'm so happy for Jim and I'm glad that the television industry has now started to recognize it's new batch of comedy babies.  Don't get me wrong.  I love The Office and 30 Rock and I especially adore the likes of Carell, Baldwin, and Fey but shows like these have been on our airwaves since forever and have already established their fine mark on the comedy genre by  racking up Golden Globes and Emmys for years.  As such, I guess it's high time that fresh comedies like The Big Bang Theory and more recent ones like Modern Family and Glee be also given their due.  Having said that, I'm equally pleased that Modern Family was able to win Best Comedy.  I have a love-hate relationship with Glee so I'm not really pining for it although I think Jane Lynch deserved the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, hands down.  I was disappointed that Parks and Recreation and lead Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson) weren't nominated for best comedy and best actor in a comedy respectively (darn it!), but I'm always crossing my fingers for next year.  And now that the Emmys are finally over, I'm totally looking forward for the new seasons of my favorite shows.  It's time to replenish the popcorn and Diet Coke supply.

"As Jim Parsons walks to the stage now, nerds across America are taking to the streets in joy, setting cars on fire, and then backing away using their inhalers."  -- John Hodgman's "color commentary" to Jim Parsons.

Coming This Fall

I'm getting sick of watching reruns and getting even more exhausted with watching reruns of the reruns!  Ugh.  I cannot wait for September to come!  Chuck and Blair!!  In Paris!! Damon and Elena!! Jack Bauer... (Oh yeah, right.)  Huddy (shudder)?  Sadly, Heroes has been cancelled (sniff).  How could a show that used to have so much potential just go downhill and become such an awful mess?  Tsk.  I miss Peter...  I may start watching Smallville again since this season may be its last.  That show has officially jumped the shark when Michael Rosenbaum left and the subsequent seasons became a bit "meh-ish" for me.  And Clark Kent is still dumb as ever.  Hooo  boy!

I'm also looking forward to my favorite geeks; Sheldon and Co.   How fun would it be if Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) actually wins the Emmy?  Do Geeks really rule the world? :-)

Waiting for The Office

Okay, so by now, it is officially confirmed that Steve Carell will be leaving The Office and season 7 will be apparently his last gig.  I would say that I was not totally surprised by Steve's decision to leave the show.  After all, this guy has been hitting it big in the box office with recent films like Date Night and Despicable Me and I'm betting his soon-to-be released Dinner for Schmucks will make a lot of Benjamins as well.  So, I think it's just fair for him and for us to let him move on to other opportunities and to greater heights.  It would be a little bit sad though because I, and the rest of world who grew to love this incompetent but big-hearted boss, could not imagine what The Office would be like without Steve.  Sure, there's always gonna be Rainn Wilson and Ed Helms who are just as funny as hell but Carell as office boss Michael Gary Scott, has always been the heart of the show.  I mean, did any of you remember that episode where Angela told Michael that her cat died and with utmost disbelief, Michael asked, "Sprinkles?".  I cried laughing because apparently, it was only Michael who remembered the cat's name (everyone in The Office finds Angela's devotion to her cats totally freaky) and that to me, established the fact that Michael, inept as he is in management, deeply cares for his staff to the point that he would make an effort to memorize the names of their pets.  That to me, is sweet and priceless.

Nonetheless, we have to accept the inevitable fact that Steve will be departing and I'm glad that NBC is letting Carell go. Sometimes, I'm a bit turned off by actors/actresses who demand salaries that are as over-bloated as their egos when renewing their contracts.  Steve, smart guy that he is, knows when to stop.

Now that the new season will be starting, I'm really excited how the writers will show Michael's exit and how he will ever get to be with his one true love, Holly Flax.  And who's going to take over Michael's job?  Honestly, I would like it to be either Dwight (No.1 salesperson, people!!) or Cornell-dude Andy because he's the most similar to Michael in terms of character and Ed Helms never fails to make me laugh. Still, I'd go to whomever the writers choose and I'd bet we'd all be surprised when they eventually reveal the new boss. On the other hand, I'll certainly be amused if they choose resident creepy-crawly Creed Bratton. LOL!! :-)

Indeed, I'll definitely miss Michael Scott.  Heck, I've now "befriended" him in Friendster and I soo hate that freaking social networking site.  I've even started re-reading the Scranton Newsletter, specifically Michael's hilarious rants against long-suffering HR Rep, Toby Flenderson.  For now, I think I'm just gonna enjoy Carell's last season and let his Michael do what his Michael does best, annoy and drive people crazy.  :-)

Michael: "What is wrong with these people? They have no willpower. I once went 28 years without having sex. And then again for seven years."

Michael:  When I discovered YouTube, I didn't work for five days. I did nothing. I viewed cookie monster sings chocolate rain about 1,000 times.

Michael:  The company has made it my responsibility today to put an end to 100,000 years of being weirded out by gays.
